Change is the only constant in life, which scares a lot of people. Change is always difficult to make, whether it is to be made in professional life or personal. When an individual is not confident about the person who is making the changes, he or she will not even bother to invest in that.

Reasons why they resist change:

The following are some main reasons why employees resist change:

  1. Mistrust and Lack of Confidence

Confidence can make or break a person. Being confident is good in a way but being overconfident may not bring the desired results sometimes. A person working in a firm for quite some time may not be comfortable giving up the job or the position assigned to him. Not being able to do something new or the fear of even losing what one has can resist an individual from the change.

  1. Fear of Failure 

Success is only possible if you have faced failure in life. Nothing comes easy, as everything takes time and has its own pace. You cannot expect success in a few days and when talking about success, failures come along with it. Every individual despises failure, whether big or small. Nevertheless, failures are the real teachers of life, as they broaden the horizons of a person and prepare them for the future.

  1. Poor Communication

Not being able to put up a conversation, which involves a change, is a drawback. For, active conversations clear the thoughts of an individual and give them a broader perspective about the dos and don’ts. Besides, open conversations can increase the chances of better outcomes.

  1. Not Being Realistic

If an employee doesn’t know what he is doing and has no aims or expectations from the work, it may be the biggest reason to resist change. Doing something just for the sake of doing it and having no desired outcomes can push the employee away from change.

  1. Emotional Responses

Changing the status from a higher post to a lower one may sometimes trigger an individual. Some people are emotionally attached to some particular aspects that it becomes hard for them to leave it all at once.

  1. Lack of Reward

When an employee works with full efforts and does not get the desired reward, he or she will automatically resist the change. A change is only helpful if it gives the desired reward. The feeling of not being acknowledged and appreciated can lead to resistance to change.

Resisting from change is good sometimes, but it is not beneficial always, as change is a must for an individual’s growth and figuring out what all can an individual do in a new environment and how easily they can adapt to the change. Change sometimes lets a person know what all he or she is capable of and how far can they push the boundaries.
