Before calling for help or coming to a conclusion, checkout if your car is actually overheated. Start the cooling fans as the first necessary measure to bring down the rising temperature.
To determine if the coolant level is appropriate uncork the radiator and check if the fluid inside is sufficient for the need of the car. The amount of coolant is a very important factor that keeps your car cool. If coolant is not replaced during a servicing session the car can become overheated. The coolant gets evaporated due to the heat produced and the levels of coolant get lowered. Another very common cause of car overheating is leakage in the radiator or the heater. The hose attached with radiator has to work under high pressure and with overuse it decays and starts leaking sometimes.
The freeze plug and the engine gasket both can leak the coolant which can result in car overheating. If you find no fault with the water pump and cannot locate a leak then probably the thermostat is causing the overheating. Thermostats can start acting like plugs and stops the antifreeze from moving freely. Such incident leads to car overheating easily. Air entrapment inside the thermostat is also a reason that can overheat your car. Water pumps need to be sturdy and efficient or else the coolant doesn’t flow properly and the car gets overheated.
